Schools Back in Full Swing
December AR Winners Rewarded
January 08, 2008
The Spring Semester is off to a great start at Liberty Elementary School. Students are back to their daily schedules, including reading. All students at Liberty participate in the Accelerated Reader program to help them to improve their reading comprehension skills. Students read a book and then take a multiple choice test over that book. Some books also have Vocabulary tests and Literacy Skills tests that students can take as well to help improve in those skills. Points are awarded by the AR computer program to the student depending on how well he/she did on the tests.
Each student is required to earn a certain number of AR points each quarter. Students with higher reading levels are required to earn more points than other students. The top three AR students in each grade level, as well as a most improved student from each grade level, are rewarded for their efforts each month. All students who reach their AR goal during each of the four quarters are rewarded with an End of the Year Bash in May.
December AR winners were treated to a lunch with Liberty
Principal Susan New at the Dairy Queen provided by Community Bank
and Trust. These students included: Emily Garcia,
Kausha Sayles, Abby Qualls, Nicolas Taylor, Jeren Kent, Anthony
Blanco, P.J. Sarwinski, Pierce Mitchell,
Jessica Henson, Haley Hall, Lauren Gibson, and Christian
Clarkson.
The AR program at Liberty Elementary is under the direction of Mrs. Tara Bailey. Students at Spring Grove Primary School, Galena Middle School, and Galena High School also participate in the AR program.
