Galena Students Raise Money to Help Joplin Teachers
Galena students, in conjunction with the high school book fair, raised money for four Galena residents that teach school at Cecil Floyd Elementary School in Joplin. The donated books were for these teachers to replace and replenish the books they had in their classrooms that were destroyed by the May 22 tornado. The teachers included Karessa New-Cannon, Mikka Jensen, Rhiannon Moser-Medley, and Danielle Murphy,
Money was raised through the One for Books program at the GHS book fair. Principals from each school "volunteered" to get a pie in the face if the money in their jar was the highest at the end of a certain time. Students, teachers, community members, etc. could put money in the principal's jar of their choice. Students could also buy chances to be the person to throw the pie. The "winning principal" was Galena Middle School principal, Danny Albright. The lucky student to put the pie in his face was Chance Hignite.
The four Cecil Floyd teachers and their classes were very excited to receive these new books!!! Thank you to everyone that participated in this fundraiser, especially Mr. Albright!!!
