Fall Alumni & Teacher of the Semester Honored

The Galena High School Student Council honored two individuals who have made a positive impact on the lives of many past and present GHS students prior to the Galena-Columbus football game.  The Alumni of the Fall Semester honored was Mr. Chet Frazier.  Mr. Frazier graduated from GHS in 1992.  He is currently the president of the Galena Educational Foundation and is continuously working to raise money for Senior scholarships by helping with pre-game tailgate cookouts, the GEF golf tournament, Fantastic 4 Miler, and various other fundraising activities throughout the year.  Mr. Frazier has also served as an announcer for many school and community games, including GHS softball and youth football.  He is a true blue Bulldog fan.

The final presentation was to the Outstanding Teacher of the Fall Semester, Mr. Jerry Day.  This is Mr. Day’s third year teaching in the Galena School District and his sixteenth year teaching overall.  He previously taught in the Seneca School District.  Mr. Day currently teaches high school Chemistry 1 and 2, Integrated Physics & Chemistry (IPC), and Physics.  Mr. Day has gone above and beyond this year to help accommodate his students’ busy schedules by choosing to teach two Chemistry classes during the same block.  He is always available for students to go to outside of class for extra help.   Mr. Day is also the GHS Scholar’s Bowl coach.

The awards were presented by Student Council officers:  President Taylor Smith, Vice President Makayla McNemar, Secretary Seth Montgomery, and Utility Officer Meaghan Flowers.

The Outstanding Alumni and Teacher awards are pretended during both the Fall and Spring semesters.  If you are interested in nominating an Alumni or teacher for this award, please email Lori Simmons at lsimmons@galena499.org with your nominees name and the reason you are nominating this person.

Congratulations to Mr. Frazier and Mr. Day!!!  Thanks for going the extra mile to help our students to be successful!!!!
