Liberty Fourth Graders Reenact Ellis Island Journey

Fourth grade students at Liberty Elementary recently held an Ellis Island reenactment to help them better understand the process that immigrants in the late 1800's and the first half of the 1900's had to go through in order to enter the United States.  The passengers who entered the U.S. through the of port of New York were legally and medically inspected at Ellis Island.  These health and documentation . . .

GHS Student Council Honors Alumni & Teacher of the Semester

Prior to the Galena-Prairie View football game, the Galena High School Student Council honored two individuals who have made a positive impact on the lives of many past and present GHS Students.  The first presentation was to the Outstanding Alumni of the Semester, Mr. Kenny Shelton.  Mr. Shelton was a member of the Class of 1984.  Over the years, he has coached many of the Galena youth in both football . . .

PTO to Host 2nd Holiday Craft and Car Show

Mark Your Calendars for November 3rd

The Galena Parent-Teacher Organization will be hosting their 2nd Annual Holiday Craft and Car Show on Saturday, November 3rd from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  The craft part of the show will be held in the Galena High School cafeteria and commons area while the car show and food trucks will be outside in the parking lot.  The PTO is looking for craft and food vendors, as well as cars to enter in the car show.  The charge for . . .

Galena Elks Lodge Donates Dictionaries to Third Graders

The Galena Elks Lodge came to Liberty Elementary recently to donate each third grade student a personal dictionary! USD #499 Staff Members Give Back to the Community

Staff members in the USD #499 school district are taking advantage of an opportunity to give back to the community and the four state area.  Student Council began sponsoring "Paws for a Cause" day five years ago.  Each year, staff members that want to participate pay $20 at the beginning of the year.  In return for this money, the staff members get to wear jeans and a "Paws for a Cause" t-shirt one . . .

Fifth Grade Students Build Little Houses

Students in Mrs. Krouse's fifth grade class have been reading the novel, Little House on the Prairie, by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  The novel takes place in Kansas during the late 1800's and is about the hardships a family that settled on the frontier experienced, as well as the benefits they had because of the simplicity of their life.  After reading how Laura's Pa built his log cabin, the students were challenged to . . .
