Spring Alumni & Teacher of the Semester Honored

The Galena High School Student Council recently honored two individuals that have had a positive impact on not only Galena students, but students at other schools as well.  Mr. Matt Glades was honored as the Alumni of the Semester.  Mr. Glades graduated from GHS in 2006.  He is currently the Director of Admissions and President’s Ambassadors Sponsor at Fort Scott Community College.  In his current position, he has traveled around to area high schools, including GHS, and spoken to students about their futures.  He has also been generous enough to come on his own time to speak to Galena High School freshmen about the importance of chasing their dreams through hard work, diligence, and perseverance.  GHS is proud to call him one of our Bulldog Alumni.

The Teacher of the Semester award went to Mr. Cory Perry.  This is Mr. Perry’s second year teaching in the Galena School District and his seventeenth year teaching overall.  He previously taught in the Baxter Springs, Columbus, and Carthage School Districts.  Mr. Perry currently teaches middle school and high school physical education and sports fitness.  He also serves as the USD #499 Wellness Director, and is the head coach of the Varsity Volleyball Team, assistant coach of the Varsity Softball team, and a middle school girl’s basketball coach.

These two individuals were presented picture plaques that will hang for the next year along with the existing plaques for past Outstanding Alumni and Teacher awards inside the front entrance at GHS.  The presentation was made by the GHS Student Council officers:  President Taylor Smith, Vice President Makayla McNemar, Secretary Meaghan Flowers, and Utility Officer Seth Montgomery.

Congratulations to our Outstanding Alumni and Teacher!!!!
