Governor Colyer Visits Galena

Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D. visited Galena High School on Wednesday, March 7th to discuss education with students, staff members, local council members, and law enforcement officers.  Earlier in the day, Governor Colyer signed an Executive Order that created the Governor's Education Council, also known as the P-20 Council. This Council is designed to connect educators from grades Pre-K through college with business members in hopes they can work together to make students more successful as they enter the 21st century work force.  For more information about the new executive bill, please click here.

While at GHS, Governor Colyer also answered student questions and discussed other changes he would like to see pertaining to education.  Accompanying the Governor were Dr. Randy Watson, Kansas Commissioner of Education and Dr. Blake Flanders, President and CEO of the Kansas Board of Regents.  These two gentlemen will serve as co-chairs for the new P-20 Council.  Also accompanying the Governor were Diane DeBacker, executive director of business and education innovation at the Kansas Commerce Department and Jim McNiece, a Kansas State Board of Education member.

Thank you, Governor Colyer, for visiting our school and taking time out of your busy schedule to talk to our students!!!
