USD #499 Welcomes Back Dr. James C. Christman as Interim Superintendent

Renee Goostree to Serve as Interim Assistant Superintendent

August 01, 2018

The USD #499 school district is happy to welcome back Dr. James C. Christman as the interim superintendent for the 2018-19 school year.  Dr. Christman has a long history with Galena schools, starting out as a teacher for his first six years here.  He then served for five years as the assistant superintendent before moving up to the superintendent position, which he held for fourteen years.  In 2002, Dr. Christman left Galena to go to Pittsburg State University to serve as the Chairman of the Special Services and Leadership Studies department.  After nine years in that position, he became the interim Dean of the College of Education for one year and has since served five years as a member of the PSU graduate faculty.  Many of the USD #499 past and current teachers and administrators have benefited from Dr. Christman's expertise in the field of education throughout his career at Galena and PSU.

Renee Goostree will serve as the interim assistant superintendent during the 2018-19 school year.  Ms. Goostree furthered her education at Missouri Southern, Missouri State, and Pittsburg State.  She started her teaching career with the Neosho R-5 school district as a 5th-8th grade Communication Arts and Art teacher and then worked as a resource teacher with special needs and gifted students before becoming the Director of Special Services for that school district.  Ms. Goostree moved to the Webb City R-7 school district, also as the Director of Special Services, and then promoted to the position of associate superintendent with responsibilities for student learning, curriculum, professional development, and federal programs.  Most recently she has worked with student teachers at Missouri Southern and as an instructor in the Teaching and Leadership program at Pittsburg State.  The USD #499 faculty would like to welcome Ms. Goostree to Galena.  We look forward to utilizing her expertise to improve our school and increase our student's success.
