Liberty Fourth Graders Reenact Ellis Island Journey

Fourth grade students at Liberty Elementary recently held an Ellis Island reenactment to help them better understand the process that immigrants in the late 1800's and the first half of the 1900's had to go through in order to enter the United States.  The passengers who entered the U.S. through the of port of New York were legally and medically inspected at Ellis Island.  These health and documentation inspections determined the passengers fate in being able to enter into America.  The fourth grade students were assigned various different roles for the reenactment, including doctors, police officers, passengers, and even Lady Liberty herself.  While the activity was a reenactment, it did help the students to get a feel for how the passengers that were trying to enter the United States felt as they were standing in line waiting.
