Additional Info:   I am sometimes called The Snake Lady or The Spider Lady because of our classroom pets. Our snake Cuddles will be 28 years old this June 2019. I have had her in the classroom since she was a hatchling, or newly hatched. We always have a female tarantula in our classroom. This gives the children the opportunity to get up close and personnel and learn about our lady spider. She stays in her spider home of course.
Third grade is a time of learning and growing physically, mentally, and academically. Even though I have taught for many years, it seems that I am still taught something new each year by my students. As a child I always wanted to be a teacher and work with children. I feel so blessed to have spent my working career doing something I love.

Some special activities we do during the year :
George Washington Carver Museum
The children have a wonderful time learning about George Washing Carver and walking through the wooded area he called home.

The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race
The Alaskan Dog Sled race is held once a year in honor of the mushers who carried the antitoxin from Anchorage, Alaska to Nome, Alaska to the children dying of diphtheria. Each musher and his or her dog team runs a distance of 938 miles in 8 to 15 days. There is always a teacher on the Iditarod Trail so we get to watch the race in progress and sometime we get to ask questions of the mushers.

Titanic Museum in Branson, Missouri
We read several nonfiction informational books about the Titanic and a favorite fiction book called "White Star: A Dog on the Titanic"
Third grade has a wonderful Titanic Tea at the end of our study of the Titanic.
